Bart van Beuzekom was at the European Carbon Farming Summit in Dublin, Ireland, for Scature and to represent Climate Cleanup. He reports that “the Summit featured a significant presence of scientists, which was encouraging to see. However, a notable observation was the substantial allocation of research funding towards validating already established conclusions from decades past using cutting-edge technologies.
Regenerative agriculture and reforestation were consistently highlighted as beneficial strategies. Refinement in measurement techniques was evident, though challenges remain related to establishing baselines, permanence, and additionality. These concepts, designed to facilitate carbon reduction credit systems, appeared to be exploited as a means of delaying substantive action.
On the positive side, the EU’s awareness of these dynamics offers a potential counterpoint. By leveraging robust scientific consensus derived from extensive data and multi-university research, the EU may be better positioned to enact effective policies and legislation in the face of corporate resistance.”
