In Climate Cleanup’s 8th Double Nature Talk on June 17, we presented the outline of our feasibility study to transform the plague of Sargassum Seaweed in the Atlantic Ocean, the Caribbean and the Gulf of Mexico into a natural climate solution. What causes this algae to bloom? What are the advantages and disadvantages of this blooming for other sea life? What happens when Sargassum washes ashore in such devastating quantities? And – last but not least – can we dredge Sargassum and do something useful with it, like creating a carbon sink on the seafloor or making fuels or building blocks from the seaweed? Watch the online presentation on our YouTube Channel, featuring Dr. Ian Hendy and Daniel Page of Portsmouth University and Peter Lindeman, Eelco Leemans, Bram Geers and Fons Janssen of Climate Cleanup.
